The details
What a topline is, and what you get
A topline is the vocal melody, and usually the words, written over an instrumental. Here you get the melody half: a sung line that follows your beat, on its own track, so you can hear it with the beat, mute it or cut it up. Use it to test whether a beat has room for a hook, to find a cadence for the chorus, or to give a writer a starting point.
How it works
The improvised path runs in Lyro’s studio tools, which take audio as input. They hear your beat itself and generate a vocal part that follows its rhythm and harmony, then return only that part. Your beat is not changed. The voice description you type steers the character; with nothing typed, Lyro asks for a soulful lead vocal with a melodic hook.
This is different from the lyrics path on add vocals to a beat, where Lyro sings words you wrote at your beat’s tempo and key. Use the topline to find a melody, and the lyrics path when the words matter.
From a topline to a finished vocal
- Sing it yourself. Write words to the melody you like, record them, and bring the take into the studio beside the beat. This is the only way to keep that exact melody.
- Have Lyro sing your words. Paste the lyrics and run the lyrics path. The model writes its own melody for them; it will not copy the improvised one note for note.
- Use a phrase as a hook. Split out a phrase you like in the studio, duplicate it and use it as a vocal hook.
Where the limits are
- It does not sing your lyrics. Treat any words you hear as placeholders.
- You cannot hum a melody and have it copied note for note.
- Each run is different. Two or three runs give you more to choose from.
- On this path the tool hears the beat itself, so the tempo reading matters mainly for the studio’s snap grid. Correct a half or double reading before you line things up.
- You need the rights to the beat you upload. If you leased it, check what your lease allows.
Credits, plans and rights
An improvised topline costs one credit per started minute of your beat, with a minimum of 2 credits: 3 credits for a three-minute beat. Starter, at $9 a month, includes 20 credits, enough for a topline over a one-minute beat 10 times. A new account can try it once for $1, without a subscription, on the first 60 seconds of its own file. If a generation fails, its credits come back automatically.

No. The topline comes back as a separate vocal track, and your beat stays as it was. The two meet only in the studio, where you set the balance.
