Make a beat from a description

Lyro’s AI beat maker generates an instrumental, with no vocals, from a description of the genre, tempo and instruments. It runs on Lyro High, the default, at 4 credits a track, or on Lyro Extra at 5 credits, whatever the length. You can set a BPM and key; the models treat them as guidance rather than an exact lock, so check the result if a vocal or a DJ set has to sit on it.

How to Add AI Vocals to Your Beat (or a Beat to Your Vocals) – Step by Step, 2026 Watch on YouTube

How it goesThree steps

  1. Describe the beatChoose a genre or write the brief yourself: tempo, drums, bass, chords and lead instruments. No lyrics are needed.
  2. Set the tempo and key if you want toGive a BPM and a key when the beat has to line up with a vocal, a video edit or a DJ set, then check the render with the free BPM and key finder.
  3. Generate and take it furtherDownload the beat, split it into drums, bass and other stems, or add a vocal to it in the studio.

The details

How the model is chosen

Two models make instrumentals, and Lyro recommends the first.

  • Lyro High is the default, at 4 credits a track whatever the length. In our small internal blind test its model scored 4.43 out of 5 for production, the highest of the three models tested. That test used sung Turkish briefs, so treat it as a guide for instrumentals, not proof.
  • Lyro Extra, added on 24 September 2026, costs 5 credits a track. By its provider’s account it gives richer arrangements. We have not blind-tested it yet, so compare the two on your own brief.

The model is shown on each track. More in How we test AI music models.

What you control

  • Genre, from house styles such as afro house, deep house and amapiano to trap, drill, reggaeton, lo-fi, techno, rock and cinematic.
  • BPM and key, which matter as soon as the beat meets other audio.
  • Mood, and the instruments you name in the prompt.
  • Length, up to 3 minutes. It does not change the price.

Genre words do real work in a prompt. Terms such as four-on-the-floor, log drum and 808 are understood by the models. The prompt library has eight prompts to copy for each genre.

Where the limits are

  • You get one stereo audio file, not a project with separate drum, bass and synth tracks, and not editable note data, so you cannot move a single note.
  • The stem splitter can pull drums, bass and other apart afterwards, with some artefacts.
  • Results vary between generations, so expect to make a few.
  • A tempo and key you set are followed as guidance, not locked. If the beat must hit an exact BPM, check it with the free BPM and key finder, and generate again if it drifts.
  • If you already have a vocal, start from it instead: Lyro’s studio tools write the beat around your recording, so it follows your tempo and key. See add a beat to your vocals.

Formats, credits and rights

MP3 and FLAC downloads are included on every plan and are never counted or capped. The mixer, mastering and WAV export from the studio come with every plan; the stem splitter comes with Creator. Failed generations are refunded in credits automatically.

Every paid plan includes a commercial licence, so you can use a beat in a release, a video or an advert. We do not warrant that an output is original or non-infringing, and we do not promise copyright protection for AI-generated audio. Downloads carry an ID3 tag declaring them AI-generated. Details are on the music rights page.

Questions

What does an AI beat cost?

An instrumental costs 4 credits on Lyro High and 5 credits on Lyro Extra, whatever its length. Starter includes 80 credits a month for $14. See the pricing page.

Will the beat really be at the BPM I set?

Usually close, but not guaranteed: Lyro High and Lyro Extra follow the BPM and key as guidance, not as a lock. Confirm any file with the free BPM and key finder. When the music has to fit a recording you already have, the studio tools that start from your vocal follow its tempo and key.

Can I get the drums and bass as separate files?

Yes, on the Creator plan. The stem splitter’s Pro mode, the default, puts each instrument of the beat on its own track, with a MIDI file for each, for 40 credits. Standard mode separates drums, bass and other for 6 credits. Each is one price per beat, whatever its length. Separation is an estimate, so expect small artefacts, mostly in the high frequencies.

Can I add a vocal to the beat later?

Yes, on every plan, Starter included: Lyro’s vocal model can sing your lyrics on the beat, or Lyro can improvise a topline over it. See add vocals to a beat. On any plan you can also record your own voice in the browser and mix it with the beat in the studio.

Can I sell or release beats made on Lyro?

Every paid plan includes a commercial licence. Marketplaces and distributors have their own rules on AI-generated audio, so check them first, and be open about how the beat was made. See music rights.
