Free syllable counter for lyrics

Paste your lyrics or a poem and this tool counts the syllables in every line, colours the line endings that rhyme, and marks a line that is much longer or shorter than the rest of its section. Turkish is counted exactly, one syllable per vowel; English is a close estimate, because English spelling does not map neatly onto sound. Nothing is sent to a server.

Why syllables matter in a song

Lines that are sung to the same melody should carry about the same number of syllables. When the second verse has a line three syllables longer than the first, a singer, or an AI model, has to cram the words in or swallow one. Matching the lines of a chorus is the quickest way to make lyrics sit on the melody, and it matters more when an AI sings them: models follow the rhythm of the words you give them.

  • Keep lines that share a melody within one or two syllables of each other.
  • Put the stressed syllables where the beat lands; count first, then read the line aloud over the beat.
  • Short lines leave room for held notes; long lines suit rap and fast verses.

Questions

How are syllables counted in English?

The tool counts groups of vowels in each word and drops a silent final e, which gets most words right. English spelling has exceptions, such as “fire” sung as one syllable or two, so treat the English number as a close estimate and trust your ear.

How are syllables counted in Turkish?

Exactly: every vowel (a, e, ı, i, o, ö, u, ü) makes one syllable and consonants do not change the count, so “gönül” has two and “sevgilim” has three.

How does it find rhymes?

It compares the end of the last word of each line: in English from the last vowel sound to the end (“light” and “night”), in Turkish from the last two vowels (“gece” and “hece”). Lines that end the same way get the same colour.

Are section labels counted?

No. A line that is only a label in square brackets, such as [Verse] or [Chorus], starts a new section and is not counted. Notes in brackets inside a line are skipped too.

Is my text saved or sent anywhere?
