Trap AI music prompts
Trap is hip-hop built on the 808: a long, booming sub bass that slides between notes. Tempos are written as 130 to 160 BPM (beats per minute) but felt at half speed, with the clap or snare on beat three. Fast hi-hat rolls and triplets run on top, and a dark melody from bells, keys or a guitar loop leaves space for a melodic, auto-tuned vocal.
A prompt should name the tempo and half-time feel, the 808, the hi-hats, the melody instrument, the vocal and a clean low end.

How to prompt it
Arrangement
Trap songs are short and hook-heavy. A 4 to 8 bar intro plays the melody alone, then the drums and 808 drop in with the hook. Verses of 12 to 16 bars alternate with 8-bar hooks. Producers create movement by muting the drums or the 808 for a bar, adding a counter-melody in the second half and ending abruptly or on the melody alone.
Vocals
Trap vocals sit between rapping and singing. Auto-tune (pitch correction used as an effect) gives the melodic, slightly robotic tone, and ad-libs (short shouted words between lines) fill the gaps. Hooks are simple and repeated. Ask for the delivery, the amount of auto-tune and the ad-libs. For a beat only, write: instrumental only, no vocals.
Tips
- State the half-time feel, for example "140 BPM half-time feel", so the model does not write a fast dance beat.
- Describe the 808 as booming, sliding or distorted, and ask for a loud, clean low end.
- Ask for rapid hi-hat rolls and triplets, because they are the rhythmic signature.
- Pick one melody instrument, such as bells, a dark piano, a flute or a guitar loop, and keep it simple.
- Name the vocal treatment, such as melodic auto-tuned rap with ad-libs, or ask for an instrumental beat.
Common mistakes
- Leaving out "half-time" at 140 BPM can produce a frantic beat with the snare on two and four.
- Requesting live drums or jazzy chords softens the sound, and the result drifts toward boom bap or R&B.
- Layering several melodies crowds the 808, and the low end loses its impact.
