What Suno’s Add Vocals does
Suno’s help page describes Add Vocals as a way to turn an instrumental idea into a full song: it will “layer on a custom vocal based on lyrics you provide” (Suno help centre). It works on a track you upload, on an instrumental you generated in Suno, or on an instrumental made from a song’s stems, and Suno pitches it at producers testing toplines and vocalists looking for collaborators.
- Plans. A beta for Pro and Premier subscribers. Suno’s plan comparison does not list it on the free plan (Suno pricing).
- Where it is. In your Library or a Workspace, the More Actions menu (…) of an uploaded track or a generated instrumental, under Remix.
- The control that matters. An Audio Strength slider in the advanced options, which Suno says determines how much the new song adheres to the old instrumental.
- Uploads. Up to 30 minutes of audio on paid plans and 8 on the free plan (Suno pricing).
The help page was last edited on 21 July 2025, before Suno’s current models, so check the app for anything that has changed since.
How to use Add Vocals on your beat
- Upload your instrumental to Suno. Use the version without your producer tag: the tag is part of the audio the model hears.
- In your Library or a Workspace, open the More Actions menu (…) on that track and choose Add Vocals from the Remix options.
- Paste your lyrics. Suno’s tip is to use the style box to describe the instrumental and the vocal you want to hear in the result, describing your existing instrumental as well as you can.
- Try a few Audio Strength settings in the advanced options, since it sets how closely the result sticks to your instrumental.
- Click Create, and compare the result with your original beat before you download it: on paid plans each song you download counts against a monthly limit (see below).
Steps 2 to 4 follow Suno’s help page; the advice about the tag and about comparing is ours.
What you get back, and what it costs to keep
Suno calls the result a new song, and the Audio Strength slider sets how closely it adheres to your instrumental. Its help page does not say that your instrumental comes back unchanged, so if the beat must stay exactly as you made it, listen to the two side by side.
- The vocal on its own. Suno’s stem separation is on Pro (Auto, and Split from mix) and Premier (also Advanced split), not on the free plan (Suno pricing). Stems count as part of their song’s single download (Suno help centre).
- Downloads. Since 3 September 2026, Pro includes 20 song downloads a month and Premier 60; unused ones do not roll over, and more can be bought. Premier users downloading from Suno Studio are not limited (Suno help centre).
- Commercial use. On Pro and Premier, for songs downloaded while you subscribe. Downloads on the free plan are for personal, non-commercial use (Suno help centre).
- Price. Pro is $10 a month, or $8 a month billed yearly, with 2,500 credits; Premier is $30, or $24 billed yearly, with 10,000 credits (Suno pricing). We did not find how many credits one Add Vocals job uses.
Suno’s Add Vocals and a vocal-only tool, side by side
Lyro Music is one tool that returns only a vocal for your beat. Here is how the two compare on the points that matter for this job. Suno’s column comes from its own pages, read on 6 October 2026; Lyro’s from our pricing page.
| Suno, Add Vocals | Lyro Music, a vocal on your beat | |
|---|---|---|
| Plan you need | Pro ($10 a month) or Premier ($30) | Any plan: Starter is $14 a month for 80 credits. No free plan |
| What comes back | A new song built on your instrumental; Audio Strength sets how closely it adheres | The vocal alone, as its own track; your beat file is never changed |
| The vocal as its own file | Through stem separation, on Pro and Premier | That is the output |
| Lyrics | Yours | Yours, or written to fit your beat’s length and tempo |
| Cost of one job | Suno credits; we did not find the number | 7 credits for up to a minute of beat, 11 credits for three minutes |
| Downloads | 20 songs a month on Pro, 60 on Premier | Never counted or capped |
| Commercial use | Pro and Premier, for songs downloaded while you subscribe | Every paid plan |
Which one fits your job
Suno’s Add Vocals is likely the better fit if:
- you already pay for Suno Pro or Premier, so Add Vocals is already in your plan;
- you want a whole new song shaped around your idea, and the instrumental changing is fine or even welcome;
- you make many songs a month and download few of them: Suno Pro costs less a month: $10 against Lyro Starter’s $14, and Pro comes with 2,500 credits;
- you want Suno Studio’s editing, on Premier.
A vocal-only tool, such as Lyro, is likely the better fit if:
- your beat must stay exactly as you made it, for example a beat you sell or lease, or a client’s track;
- you want the vocal as a file of its own without separating it from a mix, which can leave faint traces of the music in the vocal;
- you want the words written to fill your beat, or a sung hook with the verses left open;
- you download a lot: Lyro never counts downloads.
Lyro has no free plan and costs more per song than Suno. Other tools also add a vocal to your own beat: see AI tools that add vocals to a beat, and Lyro vs Suno for everything else.
Before you upload a beat to any AI tool
- Rights. Upload only a beat you made or are allowed to use, samples and loops included. If you leased it, your lease decides what you may release.
- The tag. Use the untagged version. A producer tag or a voice tag is audio like any other to the model.
- Tempo and key. Know them before you start. The BPM and key finder reads them in your browser.
- Disclosure. Say the vocal is AI-made when a store, a distributor or a client asks. Each has its own rules about AI audio.
Questions
Can Suno add vocals to my own beat?
Yes, on Pro and Premier. Upload the beat, open its More Actions menu, choose Add Vocals under Remix and paste your lyrics. Suno makes a new song on your instrumental, and the Audio Strength slider sets how closely it adheres to it (Suno help centre).
Is Add Vocals on Suno’s free plan?
No. Suno’s help page calls it a beta for Pro and Premier users, and its plan comparison does not list it on the free plan (Suno pricing).
Does Suno change my beat when it adds vocals?
Suno describes the result as a new song and gives you a slider for how closely it adheres to your instrumental. It does not say the instrumental comes back unchanged, so compare the result with your original if the beat must stay exactly as it is.
Can I download just the vocal from Suno?
Through stem separation, on Pro and Premier. Stems count as part of their song’s single download, not as extra downloads (Suno help centre).
How many songs can I download from Suno a month?
20 on Pro and 60 on Premier since 3 September 2026, and more can be bought. Free accounts get up to 7 trial downloads in total, for personal, non-commercial use (Suno help centre).
Is there a tool that adds a vocal without touching my beat?
Yes, several. Lyro is one: its vocal model listens to your beat, sings your lyrics on it and returns only the vocal, so your beat file is never changed. It costs 7 credits for up to a minute of beat, on every plan. See add vocals to a beat and the list of AI tools that add vocals to a beat.
