How to record a vocal that works

Dry and close. Record in a small, soft room, 15 to 20 cm from the microphone. Reverb in the recording blurs the timing the tool has to read.
No music in the background. Sing over headphones, not speakers, or the old backing leaks into the take.
Keep a steady tempo. Singing to a click track, even a phone metronome, makes the tempo easy to detect. You can check it with the BPM and key finder.
Start near the first word. Trim long silence at the start so the tool does not guess the downbeat from noise.

What to write in the prompt

The vocal fixes the tempo and key, so the prompt only has to describe the music: genre, drums, bass and one lead sound. For example: “Afrobeats, 104 BPM, log drum bass, shakers and congas, warm electric piano, spacious mix”. Leave out vocal words; you already have the vocal. Genre pages such as afrobeats, trap and acoustic folk list eight prompts each.
