# Udio alternatives in 2026: what each one is for

Updated 5 October 2026, 12 min read, by the Lyro Music team

For full songs with vocals from a prompt, as on Udio, start with Suno and Mureka, both $10 a month: Mureka’s paid plans have no download limit and Suno Pro allows 20 downloads a month. Treblo says its app is free. Udio switched off downloads on 29 Oct 2025, and its terms allow personal, non-commercial use only. Seven other tools, including Lyro Music, which we make, suit other jobs, and [Suno alternatives](https://lyromusic.com/learn/suno-alternatives) have their own guide. Facts checked on 5 Oct 2026.

## Why people look for an Udio alternative

Udio still lets you make songs and listen to them. What changed after its deal with Universal Music Group is what you may do with them afterwards. Here is what happened, from Udio’s and Universal’s own pages, and what is true on 5 Oct 2026.

| Date | What happened | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 29 Oct 2025 | Udio and Universal Music Group settled their copyright lawsuit and signed licences for recordings and publishing. Universal said a new subscription platform, trained on licensed music, would launch in 2026, and that until then creations would be kept inside the service. | Universal Music Group |
| 29 Oct 2025 | Udio switched off downloads the same day and called the following months a transition period. Subscribers got 1,000 extra credits once, and monthly limits rose from 1,200 to 2,400 credits on Standard and from 4,800 to 6,000 on Pro. | Udio blog, 29 Oct 2025; Udio help centre, 17 Feb 2026 |
| 12 Nov 2025 | The terms in force today were last revised. You may not download any output, and you may use it only for personal, non-commercial purposes. | Udio terms |
| 19 Nov 2025 | A licensing deal with Warner Music Group also ended that lawsuit. Udio said the labels did not buy it, and that during the transition users keep the v1, v1.5 and v1.5 Allegro models, core tools such as extend, remix and Styles, and udio.com links that anyone can open. | Udio blog, 19 Nov 2025 |
| 17 Feb 2026 | Udio’s help article on the changes, last updated that day, still says downloading of audio, video and stems has been disabled. | Udio help centre, 17 Feb 2026 |
| 5 Oct 2026 | The pricing page lists Free (10 credits a day and 100 a month, at most 3 full-length songs a day), Standard ($10 a month or $8 billed yearly, 2,400 credits) and Pro ($30 a month or $24 billed yearly, 6,000 credits). None of the Udio pages listed here gives a launch date for the new platform or says downloads will return. | Udio pricing |

What that means on 5 Oct 2026:

- **Downloads:** none, for audio, video or stems.

- **Commercial use:** no. The terms allow personal, non-commercial use only and forbid using output for any commercial purpose.

- **Ownership:** the terms say Udio and its licensors own the output, and that any rights in it that vest in you are assigned to them.

- **Posting elsewhere:** the terms forbid putting output on streaming or video platforms such as YouTube, TikTok or Spotify. You can share udio.com links.

## Udio vs Suno

On Google Trends, worldwide over the past 12 months, “suno alternative” was searched about eight times as often as “udio alternative”, and it is one of the top searches related to it ([Google Trends](https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=udio%20alternative,suno%20alternative)). Many people who look at Udio also look at Suno, so here are the two side by side, from their own pages on 5 Oct 2026. Our [Suno alternatives](https://lyromusic.com/learn/suno-alternatives) guide compares the same tools from Suno’s side.

| On 5 Oct 2026 | Udio | Suno |

Other tools do the same job. We list only tools whose own pages we could read and quote; a missing tool is not a judgement of it.

## What each one is for

We have not compared how these tools sound, so this is not a ranking. Each point says what the tool suits, going by its own pages.

- **Suno.** Full songs with vocals from a prompt, at about $0.02 a generated song on Pro by Suno’s own count, if 20 downloads a month (60 on Premier) is enough. Paid plans can also add vocals or an instrumental to audio you upload ([Suno plan guide](https://suno.com/hub/ai-music-software); [Suno pricing](https://suno.com/pricing)).

- **Mureka.** The same kind of full songs for the same $10, with no download limit on paid plans. Subscribing also gives commercial rights to songs you made before ([Mureka plans](https://www.mureka.ai/subscribe)).

- **Treblo.** Full songs with vocals without paying. Treblo, formerly Sonauto, says its app is free with unlimited songs, lists inpainting, extending and stem separation, and places no usage restrictions on what you make ([treblo.com](https://treblo.com/); [Treblo terms](https://treblo.com/tos)).

- **MusicGPT.** Many songs a month: 100 on Plus, 500 on Pro and unlimited on Ultra, with unlimited downloads on paid plans. Stems, remixing and adding vocals or an instrumental start at Pro ([MusicGPT pricing](https://musicgpt.com/pricing)).

- **ElevenLabs Music.** Music sold by the minute, edited section by section, in tracks of up to 10 minutes. A clip of about 30 seconds can guide the style; it is not remixed ([ElevenLabs docs](https://elevenlabs.io/docs/eleven-creative/products/music)).

- **Mozart AI.** A studio around the generator: splitting into up to 10 stems on paid plans, audio to MIDI, and audio and MIDI export on every plan ([Mozart AI pricing](https://mozartai.com/pricing)).

- **Stable Audio.** Producers who think in tracks: multitrack sessions, audio-to-audio and inpainting (redoing one part) on something you made, stems (marked experimental) and a plugin for music software ([stableaudio.com](https://stableaudio.com/); [Stable Audio guide](https://stableaudio.com/guide)).

- **AIVA.** Composers who want editable output: MP3 and MIDI on every plan. Owning the copyright needs Pro ([AIVA pricing](https://www.aiva.ai/pricing)).

- **Soundraw.** Background music for videos at a flat rate. Soundraw says its model is trained only on music its own producers made ([Soundraw pricing](https://soundraw.io/pricing)).

- **Lyro Music.** Starting from your own vocal or beat, finishing the track in the browser and downloading everything. On every plan Lyro writes a [beat around your vocal](https://lyromusic.com/features/add-beat-to-vocals) or sings your lyrics [on your beat](https://lyromusic.com/features/add-vocals-to-beat), and its mixer and mastering use no credits. On Creator, $24 a month, the [stem splitter](https://lyromusic.com/features/stem-splitter) separates a track into stems. A song costs $0.32 to $0.70, far more than on Suno or Mureka, and there is no free plan.

## Which one for which job

| If you need | Look at |
|---|---|
| Full songs with vocals from a prompt, for little or no money | Treblo, which says its app is free, or Suno and Mureka at about $0.02 a generated song on their $10 plans |
| To download everything you make, with no monthly count | Mozart AI or Stable Audio on any plan, Mureka or MusicGPT on a paid plan, Soundraw Creator or Artist Unlimited, or Lyro Music |
| To release songs on Spotify or Apple Music | Suno Pro or Premier, Mureka Pro or Premier, ElevenLabs Creator or above, AIVA Pro, a Soundraw Artist plan or any Lyro plan. Treblo puts no restriction on how you use your songs, and MusicGPT and Mozart AI include commercial use on paid plans. Then read what the platforms allow |
| To try before paying | Treblo, Suno, Mureka, MusicGPT, Mozart AI, ElevenLabs Music, Stable Audio or AIVA. Of their free plans, only Treblo’s allows commercial use. Lyro has no free plan |
| To build on your own vocal or beat | Suno on a paid plan, Stable Audio or any Lyro plan |
| Stems or MIDI to keep working in music software | Mozart AI (MIDI export on every plan, up to 10 stems on paid plans), AIVA (MIDI on every plan), Mureka Premier (stems, MIDI and the DAW session), MusicGPT Pro (stems), Stable Audio (experimental stems and a plugin) or Lyro Creator (stems) |
| Background music for videos at a flat rate | Soundraw Creator |
| Pieces longer than a few minutes | ElevenLabs Music (up to 10 minutes) or Stable Audio (up to 6) |
| To create and listen inside one service, without files | Udio itself still does this: you make songs, play them and share udio.com links |

A licence to use a track is not copyright in it. See [AI music copyright by country](https://lyromusic.com/learn/ai-music-copyright-by-country).

## Before you leave Udio: what to check

- **Your songs stay in Udio.** You can keep playing them and sharing udio.com links, which anyone can open ([Udio blog, 19 Nov 2025](https://www.udio.com/blog/udio-warner)).

- **The audio cannot come with you.** Downloading of audio, video and stems is disabled ([Udio help centre, 17 Feb 2026](https://help.udio.com/en/articles/12683565-changes-associated-with-the-universal-music-group-umg-partnership)). Without Udio’s written permission, its terms also forbid copying or modifying output, using it commercially or using it with other AI tools, so uploading a Udio song to another service is not something they allow ([Udio terms](https://www.udio.com/terms-of-service)).

- **Your own words are different.** The terms say Udio claims no ownership of what you put in, such as lyrics you wrote, although you grant it a licence to use them. You can type those lyrics into another tool.

- **Credits.** Plan credits do not roll over, and when a subscription ends the account goes back to the free limits. Credits bought separately never expire ([Udio help centre, credits](https://help.udio.com/en/articles/10739134-credits-and-credit-limits)).

- **What comes next has no date.** Universal said the new licensed platform would launch in 2026 ([Universal Music Group](https://www.universalmusic.com/universal-music-group-and-udio-announce-udios-first-strategic-agreements-for-new-licensed-ai-music-creation-platform/)). On 5 Oct 2026 no Udio page listed here says when, or whether downloads will return.

If you start again elsewhere, the [prompt generator](https://lyromusic.com/ai-music-prompt-generator) writes a style prompt in your browser, without an account, that you can paste into any of these tools, and the [prompt library](https://lyromusic.com/prompts) has starting points by genre.

## Who wrote this, and how it was checked

We make Lyro Music, one of the ten tools in the table, so read its row with that in mind. Its facts come from our own pricing page; every other fact comes from the company’s own site. We have not compared how the tools sound, and nothing here says which one sounds better.

Where Lyro is weaker:

- **No free plan.** Lyro has no free plan and no free trial, because every generation costs us money. Eight of the other nine have a free plan, and Treblo says its app is free.

- **Price per song.** A Lyro song costs $0.32 to $0.70, against about $0.02 on Suno Pro or Mureka Pro. The arithmetic is on the [cost per song](https://lyromusic.com/learn/ai-music-cost-per-song) page.

- **Length and stems.** Lyro makes songs of up to 3 minutes and splits four stems. ElevenLabs Music generates up to 10 minutes and splits up to 6 stems on its higher plans, Stable Audio generates up to 6 minutes, Mureka Premier splits up to 12 stems and Mozart AI up to 10 on paid plans.

How we checked: on 5 Oct 2026 we opened each company’s pricing, help, terms and product pages linked here and wrote down what they state, using no review sites. Where two of a company’s pages disagreed, we followed its pricing page. If a row is out of date, tell us through the [contact page](https://lyromusic.com/contact) and we will correct it. ## Questions

### What happened to Udio?

On 29 Oct 2025 Udio settled its copyright lawsuit with Universal Music Group and agreed to build a licensed platform with it, due in 2026 ([Universal Music Group](https://www.universalmusic.com/universal-music-group-and-udio-announce-udios-first-strategic-agreements-for-new-licensed-ai-music-creation-platform/)). The same day it switched off downloads ([Udio blog, 29 Oct 2025](https://www.udio.com/blog/a-new-era)). On 19 Nov 2025 it signed a similar deal with Warner Music Group ([Udio blog, 19 Nov 2025](https://www.udio.com/blog/udio-warner)). Udio still runs: you can make songs, play them and share udio.com links, but its terms allow personal, non-commercial use only ([Udio terms](https://www.udio.com/terms-of-service)).

### Can you still download from Udio?

No. On 5 Oct 2026 Udio’s help centre still says downloading of audio, video and stems has been disabled ([Udio help centre, 17 Feb 2026](https://help.udio.com/en/articles/12683565-changes-associated-with-the-universal-music-group-umg-partnership)), and its terms say you may not download copies of any output ([Udio terms](https://www.udio.com/terms-of-service)). You can still play your songs in Udio and share udio.com links. If you need files, Mureka’s and MusicGPT’s paid plans, Mozart AI, Stable Audio, Soundraw Creator and Lyro Music do not count downloads, Treblo offers downloads in five formats, and Suno allows 20 a month on Pro.

### What is the best Udio alternative?

It depends on the job. For full songs with vocals from a prompt at Udio’s price, Suno and Mureka are the closest, and Mureka’s paid plans do not limit downloads; Treblo says its app is free. For producers, Stable Audio or Mozart AI; for composers who want MIDI, AIVA; for background music, Soundraw. We have not compared how they sound, so try the same prompt in two or three.

### Suno vs Udio: which is better?

For taking songs elsewhere, Suno: Pro, at $10 a month, includes 20 downloads a month and commercial rights, while Udio allows no downloads and personal, non-commercial use only. Both have a free plan and a $10 entry plan. We have not compared how they sound. The side-by-side table is above, and our [Suno alternatives](https://lyromusic.com/learn/suno-alternatives) guide covers the tools that compete with Suno.

### Is there a free alternative to Udio?

Yes. Treblo says its app is free, with unlimited songs, downloads in five formats and no usage restrictions on what you make. Suno, Mureka, MusicGPT, Mozart AI, ElevenLabs Music, Stable Audio and AIVA have free plans too, but none of those allows commercial use. Lyro Music has no free plan.

### Which Udio alternative allows commercial use?

Treblo, even on its free tier, by its own terms. Elsewhere you need the right paid plan: Suno Pro or Premier, for songs downloaded while you subscribe; Mureka Pro or Premier, including earlier songs; MusicGPT or Mozart AI on a paid plan; ElevenLabs Starter for commercial use without a streaming release, or Creator to release on Spotify and Apple; a paid Stable Audio plan; AIVA Standard with limits, or Pro; Soundraw for background music, or an Artist plan to release songs; and Lyro Music on every plan. A licence is not copyright: see [AI music copyright by country](https://lyromusic.com/learn/ai-music-copyright-by-country).

### Can I move my Udio songs to another AI music tool?

Not the audio. Downloads are disabled, and without Udio’s written permission its terms forbid copying output or using it with other AI tools ([Udio terms](https://www.udio.com/terms-of-service)). The terms say Udio claims no ownership of what you put in, such as lyrics you wrote, so you can take your own lyrics and start again elsewhere.
