# Finish a song with AI: start from what you already have

Updated 10 October 2026, 9 min read, by the Lyro Music team

What AI can finish depends on what you already have. With a beat, Lyro writes lyrics sized to it and sings them on it. With lyrics, it writes the music and sings them. With a recorded vocal, it builds the instruments around it. Lyro cannot continue or extend a recording you upload, but Suno’s Extend and GoAISong’s Song Extender can ([Suno help centre, Extend](https://help.suno.com/en/articles/2409601); [GoAISong’s Song Extender page](https://goaisong.com/song-extender)).

## Start from what you have, not from the tool

“Finish my song” means different jobs. A beat with no singer is missing a vocal. A page of lyrics is missing music. A voice memo is missing a band. A demo with one weak verse is missing one verse. Each has a different route, so find your row first.

| You have | “Finished” means | Route on Lyro | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| A beat or instrumental, no vocal | A sung or rapped vocal on it | Add vocals to a beat, with lyrics written to fit it | 7 credits for up to a minute of beat, 11 credits for three minutes. The lyrics use writing-assistant requests, not credits |
| A beat, and you are stuck on the melody | A vocal melody to react to | Topline generator | One credit per started minute, minimum 5 credits |
| Lyrics, no music | A full song | Turn lyrics into a song | 4 credits on Lyro High or 5 credits on Lyro Extra, whatever the length |
| Only an idea or a title | Words and a song | Lyric writer, then the song generator | Same as above for the song |
| A recorded vocal, acapella or voice memo | Instruments around it | Add a beat to your vocals, acapella to song or voice memo to song | One credit per started minute, minimum 5 credits |
| A full draft with one weak part | That part redone | Edit a section, from the track in your Library | One credit per started minute of the whole track, minimum 5 credits |
| A full draft in the wrong style | The same song, produced again | Restyle, from the track in your Library | Same as Edit a section |
| A finished song that is not mixed | Balanced and mastered | Mixing and mastering, in your browser | No credits |
| A loop that stops after eight bars | A longer arrangement | Not something Lyro does. See the next section | None |

Credits are drawn from the plan: Starter is $14 a month for 80 credits, Creator $24 for 300. There is no free plan. See [pricing](https://lyromusic.com/pricing).

## What Lyro cannot finish, and what other tools do

Be clear about the gaps before you pay for anything. Lyro does not do these:

- **Continue or extend a recording.** There is no button that takes your eight-bar loop and writes the next two minutes after it.

- **Rearrange or lengthen your instrumental.** It adds a vocal to your beat and leaves the beat file unchanged.

- **Return MIDI or sheet music.** Everything comes back as audio.

- **Follow a tune you hum or sing.** The vocal model sings the words it is given, and the melody is its own, new on every take. To keep your own tune, keep your own voice: see [voice memo to song](https://lyromusic.com/features/voice-memo-to-song).

- **Stack harmonies, doubles or ad-libs** on a vocal.

If the missing piece is a continuation, other tools do that. This is what each says on its own page, read on 10 Oct 2026. We have not compared how they sound or what they cost per song, and a tool missing from the list is not a judgement of it.

| Tool | What it says it does | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Suno, Extend | You choose where to extend from and how much of the original to keep, add lyrics or style details, and Suno makes a continuation. “Get Whole Song” stitches the new ending onto the original. The free plan can upload up to 60 seconds of audio to extend, and Pro and Premier up to 8 minutes | Suno help centre, Extend; Suno help centre, audio uploads |
| Suno, Replace Section | For Pro and Premier. You highlight a section, change its lyrics if you like, and get two new versions to compare, then a whole song with the section you chose | Suno help centre, Replace Section |
| Suno, Add Vocals | A beta for Pro and Premier. It layers a vocal made from your lyrics on an uploaded or generated instrumental | Suno help centre, Add Vocals |
| GoAISong, Song Extender | You upload a demo, loop or beat (up to 8 minutes, 50 MB) and it continues from the end of your audio, matching its tempo, key and vibe, for up to 60 extra seconds per run | GoAISong’s Song Extender page |
| Veena | An AI co-producer inside an online music editor. Its own page says it proposes a structure around the loop you are stuck on, writes missing parts as editable MIDI, and mixes and masters, and gives a free Basic tier and a $20 a month Pro plan. That page is Veena’s own ranking of finishing tools, so read it as a company describing its product | Veena’s own page |

If you need a continuation or MIDI, start there. If you need the vocal, or the music under a vocal, that is where Lyro fits.

## You have a beat: a vocal, then a mix

This is the route with the most steps, and the one where small choices save credits. In order:

- **Bounce only the part that needs a vocal.** The chorus is enough to start. Export it from your music software starting on a bar, without your producer tag.

- **Check the tempo before you write a word.** Lyro reads it in your browser, and a trap beat at 140 BPM can show as 70. Correct it, or the lyrics are sized for the wrong speed. The free [BPM and key finder](https://lyromusic.com/tools/bpm-key-finder) gives a second reading.

- **Size the words to the bars.** Rapped, a line takes one bar. Sung, a line takes two bars above about 110 BPM and one bar on slower beats. At 120 BPM a bar lasts 2 seconds, so a 16-bar chorus is 32 seconds and holds about 8 sung lines. Write every repeat out in full, because the vocal model sings exactly what it reads. The [syllable counter](https://lyromusic.com/tools/syllable-counter) checks the lines.

- **Generate two or three takes.** The melody is new each time. Keep the one that fits your words.

- **Nudge and mix.** If a word lands early or late, split that phrase in the studio and move it on the grid. Then balance the vocal against the beat and master. The studio costs no credits. See [AI vocals off beat?](https://lyromusic.com/features/vocals-off-beat) if the whole take is out.

What it costs depends on how much beat you upload:

| Job | What you upload | Credits |
|---|---|---|
| A hook, copied to every chorus in the studio | 16 chorus bars (32 seconds at 120 BPM) | 7 |
| The same hook, three takes to choose from | The same 16 bars, three runs | 21 |
| A vocal for the whole beat | A 2:40 beat | 11 |

On Starter’s 80 monthly credits that is 11 chorus-sized runs or 7 whole-beat runs. Writing the lyrics uses the writing-assistant allowance (100 requests a month on Starter), not credits. More detail: [how to add AI vocals to your beat](https://lyromusic.com/learn/how-to-add-ai-vocals-to-your-beat), [a sung hook for your beat](https://lyromusic.com/features/hook-for-your-beat) and [how to write a topline](https://lyromusic.com/learn/how-to-write-a-topline).

## You have lyrics, a vocal or a voice memo

**Lyrics only.** Paste them under Custom in Create, tag the parts [Verse] and [Chorus], choose a genre and a voice, and Lyro writes the music and sings your words. With only about four lines the model adds lines of its own, so write at least a full verse and a chorus if you want to hear just yours. A song costs 4 credits on Lyro High, so three takes cost 12 credits. The melody is the model’s and changes on every take, which is useful when you have no tune: two or three takes give you choices to learn. See [turn lyrics into a song](https://lyromusic.com/features/lyrics-to-song).

**A recorded vocal, acapella or voice memo.** Lyro reads its tempo and key, then writes drums, bass and chords around it as a separate track. Your recording is not changed, re-sung or cloned. A 90-second memo costs 5 credits. Three things decide how well it fits:

- A steady pulse. Free-tempo singing is the hardest case, so sing the idea again to a click if you can.

- A dry, solo recording. Echo, a guide beat or music bleeding into the microphone make the fit looser.

- The right tempo. Tempo can be read at half or double, and key on the relative key. Check both before you spend credits.

A first try can drift in tempo against the vocal, so run it again before you decide it does not work. The new music is instruments only: backing vocals and harmonies are not added. See [add a beat to your vocals](https://lyromusic.com/features/add-beat-to-vocals) and [how to make a beat for your vocal](https://lyromusic.com/learn/how-to-make-a-beat-for-your-vocal).

**A hummed or whistled idea.** The music is built around the hum and the hum stays a hum. Lyro does not turn it into sung words. Write the words, sing them into a new memo, and use that.

## You have a full draft with one weak part

Open the track in your Library. Lyro offers two tools for a song it made or an audio file you uploaded, both priced at one credit per started minute of the track, minimum 5 credits, so a three-minute track costs 5 credits. The price follows the length of the whole track, not the section you pick.

- **Edit a section.** You set a start and an end in seconds, describe what the part should be (“bigger drums and a brighter lead here”) and add lyrics if the words should change. The rest of the track stays as it is. It suits small repairs: a clumsy transition, a verse that needs more lift, a mispronounced word. It suits big rewrites less, because the new part has to join what is kept.

- **Restyle.** The same song produced again in a new style, with a slider for how far it goes from the original. A Lyro song sends its own lyrics. For your own file, paste them, or the words are lost. The voice is made again by the model, so it is not your exact voice.

Both give a different result each time. Plan on two tries, and keep your original export in your own folder. A file you upload needs to be yours: Lyro asks you to confirm the rights before it runs, and does not check them.

For the parts nobody generates, mixing and mastering run in your browser and cost no credits. On Creator, the [stem splitter](https://lyromusic.com/features/stem-splitter) (one credit plus two per started minute) pulls a mixed track apart into vocals, drums, bass and other, so you can rebalance it or take one part into your own session.

## Before you spend credits: a checklist

- **Decide what “finished” means.** A demo to play to a singer or a client is a smaller job than a release. An AI vocal is a good way to hear a song before anything else is paid for. It is a guide to the words and the structure, not a replacement for a session singer. For what a singer costs, see [how much it costs to hire a singer](https://lyromusic.com/learn/how-much-does-it-cost-to-hire-a-singer).

- **Name the missing piece.** Vocal, music, melody, one section or a mix. If it is none of these, such as a longer arrangement, use a tool built for that.

- **Export clean.** Start on a bar, leave out tags and talking, and use WAV if you can.

- **Confirm tempo and key.** This is the most common reason a result does not fit.

- **Write for the length.** Words that fill less than about 60% of the beat leave long stretches of humming. Lyro’s lyric writer shows how much of the beat your words fill and can write the rest around lines you keep.

- **Budget three takes.** Results differ on every run.

- **Check you have the rights** to everything you upload, samples and loops included.

When you release the finished song, say the AI parts are AI-made. Every download carries an ID3 tag declaring that, and every paid plan includes a commercial licence. We do not promise AI-generated audio is exclusive or protected by copyright. See [music rights](https://lyromusic.com/legal/music-rights), [who owns AI-generated music](https://lyromusic.com/learn/who-owns-ai-generated-music) and [whether you can monetise AI music](https://lyromusic.com/learn/can-you-monetize-ai-music).

And if the exact melody in your head matters more than anything else, an AI vocal will not give you that. Sing a rough take yourself, or work with a topliner or a singer: [how producers get vocals](https://lyromusic.com/learn/how-producers-get-vocals) lists the routes.

## Questions

### Can AI finish my song?

It can finish the part that is missing, if you know which part that is. With a beat, Lyro adds a vocal. With lyrics, it writes the music and sings them. With a recorded vocal, it writes the instruments. With a draft, it can redo one section or the whole production in another style. It cannot continue or lengthen a recording you upload.

### Can Lyro extend or continue a track I upload?

No. Lyro adds to a recording, such as a vocal on your beat or instruments around your vocal, but it does not write more of the same track after it ends. Suno has Extend ([Suno help centre, Extend](https://help.suno.com/en/articles/2409601)) and GoAISong has a Song Extender that continues up to 60 seconds per run ([GoAISong’s Song Extender page](https://goaisong.com/song-extender)).

### I have lyrics but no melody. How do I finish the song?

Paste the lyrics into Lyro under Custom, choose a genre and a voice, and it writes a melody and the music and sings your words. The melody is its own and new on every take, so run two or three and keep the best. It cannot copy a tune you hum. Cost: 4 credits a take on Lyro High. See [turn lyrics into a song](https://lyromusic.com/features/lyrics-to-song).

### I have a beat. How do I finish it into a song?

Upload the beat, or only the chorus bars, say what the song is about, and Lyro writes lyrics sized to the bars and sings or raps them on it. The vocal comes back on its own track and your beat file is never changed. It costs 7 credits for up to a minute of beat. See [lyrics written to fit your beat](https://lyromusic.com/features/write-lyrics-to-your-beat).

### Is there a free AI that finishes my song?

Not on Lyro: it has no free plan and no free trial. The [prompt generator](https://lyromusic.com/ai-music-prompt-generator), the [syllable counter](https://lyromusic.com/tools/syllable-counter) and the [BPM and key finder](https://lyromusic.com/tools/bpm-key-finder) cost nothing to use, and they help you prepare. Other tools have free tiers, with limits: Veena’s page says its Basic tier is free ([Veena’s own page](https://www.veena.studio/blog/best-tools-to-finish-unfinished-songs)), and Suno’s help centre describes uploads of up to 60 seconds on its free plan ([Suno help centre, audio uploads](https://help.suno.com/en/articles/6141569)). Read the limits first.

### Will the AI keep my melody and my voice?

Only if you bring them as audio. A voice memo or acapella stays exactly as you recorded it and Lyro writes the music around it. When Lyro sings your lyrics, the melody is the model’s, and you choose a voice type, not a singer. There is no voice cloning and no naming a real artist as a style.

### How much does it cost to finish a song with Lyro?

It depends on the job. A song from lyrics is 4 credits on Lyro High or 5 credits on Lyro Extra. A vocal on a beat of up to a minute is 7 credits. Instruments around a vocal, a section edit or a restyle is one credit per started minute, minimum 5 credits. Mixing and mastering are free of credits. Starter is $14 a month for 80 credits. See [pricing](https://lyromusic.com/pricing).
