# Make vocal chops from a vocal sung on your own beat

Lyro has no one-click vocal chop maker, but it gives you a vocal made for your own beat to cut up. Upload the beat or a loop of it, and Lyro’s vocal model sings short phrases on its grid, or words Lyro writes for the beat. It comes back as a track of its own. Then you split, repeat, reverse and pitch the best bits in the studio. A loop of up to a minute costs 7 credits.

**Drop your beat or a loop of it here** WAV, MP3, FLAC, M4A or OGG, up to 60 MB. Tempo and key are read in your browser; nothing is uploaded until you sign up.

What should the vocal sing?

## How it goesThree steps

- **Upload a loop of the section that needs chops** Export 8 to 16 bars of your drop or breakdown as WAV or MP3, starting on a bar. Lyro reads the tempo and key in your browser; correct a half or double tempo.
- **Give it short phrases, or leave the words out** Write one to four words per phrase and pick a voice, or press Make chops under the lyrics box to shrink a draft to six to ten phrases. Leave the box empty and Lyro writes the words itself.
- **Cut, repeat and pitch the best bits** In the studio, split at the playhead, delete what you do not want, duplicate a chop onto the grid and shift each copy in semitones. Or download the vocal alone and chop it in your own sampler.

## The details

### Two ways to get a vocal to chop

| | Short phrases you write | Improvised, words by Lyro |
|---|---|---|
| What you give | Six to ten phrases of one to four words, written out as often as you want them sung | Only the beat and a line about the voice, such as “breathy female, short rhythmic phrases” |
| What comes back | Your phrases sung on your beat’s grid, as a vocal on its own | Lines Lyro wrote for your beat, sung on its grid, as a track on its own |
| Good for | A chop that says something: a word, a name, a short hook | Phrases to slice when the meaning does not matter |
| Cost | 7 credits for a loop of up to a minute | 6 credits for a beat of up to 5 minutes |
| Watch for | With few words the model may add hums or lines of its own. Keep them as extra material or delete them | Each run differs. Two or three runs give you more to choose from |

The “Make chops” button sits under the lyrics box. It boils words you have written, or words Lyro drafted to fit your beat, down to six to ten very short phrases under a [Hook] tag. Writing and rewriting use writing-assistant requests, not credits.

### Cutting the chops in the studio, step by step

The studio is part of every plan and runs in your browser. Add your beat and the new vocal as two tracks, then:

- **Find a phrase.** Click the ruler to put the playhead where a chop starts. It snaps to an eighth note.

- **Split.** Press Split at playhead (or the S key) at the start and again at the end. Each cut gets a few milliseconds of fade to avoid a click.

- **Delete the rest** of the take, or keep it on a muted track in case you want another bite.

- **Duplicate** the chop and drag the copy onto the grid. Snap puts it on a step of half a beat, so a repeated chop stays in time with your drums.

- **Pitch each copy** with the Pitch slider (-12 to +12 semitones) and Apply pitch. The clip keeps its length. Undo brings the old version back.

- **Reverse, fade, shape.** Reverse turns a tail into a riser. Fade in and Fade out smooth the edges. On the track, Low cut clears the bass, Reverb and Delay add space, and Pump ducks the vocal on every beat: the house sidechain feel.

**Worked numbers, house at 124 BPM.** A beat is 0.48 seconds, a bar is 1.94 seconds, and the snap step is 0.24 seconds. A 16-bar loop is 31 seconds, so it costs 7 credits and holds about eight sung phrases (a sung line takes about two bars at most tempos). A one-beat chop is a 0.48-second clip, and two of them on consecutive steps make a stutter.

### Making the chops fit your key

Chops work as a lead when they land on notes of your scale. Check the key first with the [BPM and key finder](https://lyromusic.com/tools/bpm-key-finder), then find what note a chop sits on by playing it against a keyboard. In a track in A minor, a chop that sits on A moves to C with +3, to E with +7 and up an octave with +12.

Pitch shift moves the whole voice, so a big move makes it sound like a smaller or bigger singer. There is no formant control and no vocoder. Keep moves small for a natural tone and push them far when you want the effect. If one chop sounds sour against your chords, see [fix an AI vocal that is out of key](https://lyromusic.com/features/vocal-out-of-key).

Want the chops in a sampler instead? In your library, Download vocal only saves the vocal on its own as a WAV, ready to slice in your own music software.

### A pack, a text-to-chops tool, or a vocal sung on your beat

| | Buy vocals from a marketplace | Describe the chop to a text tool | A vocal sung on your beat (Lyro) |
|---|---|---|---|
| What you do | Browse by tempo and key, buy, then warp and pitch it to fit | Type what you want and download the result | Upload your beat, give phrases or none, then cut the result yourself |
| What you get | A recording by a real singer | A generated vocal element | An AI vocal sung while the model listens to your beat |
| Who else may have it | Voqlr says non-exclusive items can be bought by several producers and exclusive items are sold once | Sonura says paid plans carry exclusive commercial rights | Generated for your job. It is AI output, so we do not promise exclusivity |
| Cost | Voqlr says vocals start from $9.95 with a commercial licence included | On its plans (not compared here) | 7 credits for a loop of up to a minute |

Both outside columns come from pages read on 10 Oct 2026: [Voqlr’s home page and FAQ](https://www.voqlr.com/) and [Sonura’s AI vocals page](https://sonurastudio.com/use-cases/ai-vocals/). Voqlr lists its vocals with a tempo and key, for example 124 BPM in D major. Sonura’s page describes making chops, ad-libs, hooks and samples from a description, and does not say the result is sung to your track’s tempo and key. We have not tested either.

### Where the limits are

- **There is no one-click chopper.** Lyro does not slice a vocal for you, map it to pads or let you play it from a keyboard. You place the clips yourself, or take the vocal into your own sampler.

- The melody is the model’s. You steer it with the words, the voice and a line of style, not note by note.

- You choose a voice type, not a singer. Lyro has no voice cloning and does not take an artist’s name as a style. The voice differs from one generation to the next.

- No doubles, harmonies or ad-libs are stacked for you. Copy a chop onto another track to build a stack.

- Pitch shifting is in whole semitones, with no formant control and no note-by-note correction.

- The model sometimes adds extra lines. Upload only the loop you need and treat extras as spare material.

- The “Vocal chops” voice option on the new-song screen makes a whole new song from a description. It does not work on a beat you upload.

- Lyro is not a way to lift a vocal from a released song. Our [acceptable use policy](https://lyromusic.com/legal/acceptable-use) does not allow uploading one. To split a song you own, use the [stem splitter](https://lyromusic.com/features/stem-splitter) on Creator.

- You need the rights to everything in the beat you upload, samples and loops included.

### Credits, plans and rights

A vocal sung on a loop of up to a minute costs 7 credits, and a three-minute beat costs 11 credits. The improvised route costs 6 credits for a beat of up to 5 minutes. Both are on every plan: Starter is $14 a month for 80 credits, enough for 11 times a loop of up to a minute. The studio, effects and WAV export cost no credits, and a failed job gives back every credit automatically. See the [pricing](https://lyromusic.com/pricing) page.

As between you and us, you own whatever rights exist in the result, and every paid plan includes a commercial licence for what Lyro generates. We do not promise that AI output is exclusive or protected by copyright, so do not sell a chop as either. Every download carries an ID3 tag declaring it AI-generated; say so when a store, a distributor or a client asks. See [music rights](https://lyromusic.com/legal/music-rights).

## Questions

### Is there an AI vocal chop generator that works on my own beat?

Partly. Lyro makes the raw vocal for your beat: it sings short phrases on your beat’s grid, or lines it writes itself, and returns the vocal on its own. It does not slice that vocal into chops for you. You split, duplicate and pitch the phrases in the studio, or in your own sampler. A loop of up to a minute costs 7 credits.

### What should I write if I want vocal chops?

Six to ten phrases of one to four words, with open sounds such as “oh”, “yeah” or “hold”. Write each one out as often as you want it sung, because the model reads exactly what it is given. Give it about one phrase for every two bars of loop. The **Make chops** button shrinks a longer draft to that shape. Plan on two or three takes.

### Will the chops be in my track’s key and tempo?

The vocal is sung while the model listens to your beat, so it comes back on your grid. A note can still clash with your chords. Move that chop by whole semitones in the studio, or generate again. Check your key first with the [BPM and key finder](https://lyromusic.com/tools/bpm-key-finder).

### Can I chop a vocal from a song I like?

Not with Lyro. Only upload audio you made or have permission to use, and our [acceptable use policy](https://lyromusic.com/legal/acceptable-use) does not allow lifting a vocal from someone else’s released song. The vocal Lyro sings on your own beat is made for it, so there is nothing to clear.

### Can I release or sell a track with these chops in it?

Yes, if the store or distributor allows AI audio, so check its rules. Every paid plan includes a commercial licence for what Lyro generates. Keep the ID3 tag, say the vocal is AI-generated when asked, and do not sell it as exclusive or copyrighted. See [music rights](https://lyromusic.com/legal/music-rights).

### Can I get the chops as an acapella for my own sampler?

Yes. In your library, Download vocal only saves the vocal on its own as a WAV, and downloads are never counted or capped. For the same job with full lyrics, see [an acapella for your own track](https://lyromusic.com/features/ai-acapella-generator).

### What does it cost?

7 credits for a loop of up to a minute with phrases you write, and 6 credits for a beat of up to 5 minutes when Lyro writes the words. Both are on every plan: Starter is $14 a month for 80 credits. See the [pricing](https://lyromusic.com/pricing) page.
