# Add AI vocals to your beat

Upload a beat and give Lyro your lyrics, or say what the song is about and let it write them. Lyro’s vocal model listens to the beat itself and sings your words on its tempo and grid, then returns the vocal alone, as its own track, usually in two to three minutes. Your beat is never altered. Leave the lyrics empty and Lyro writes words sized to the beat itself, then sings them the same way. Either way, the beat and the new vocal open together in the mixer.

**Drop your beat here** WAV, MP3, FLAC, M4A or OGG, up to 60 MB. Tempo and key are read in your browser; nothing is uploaded until you sign up.

How to Add AI Vocals to Your Beat (or a Beat to Your Vocals) – Step by Step, 2026 [Watch on YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWtizvINKmw)

## How it goesThree steps

- **Upload your beat** Lyro reads its tempo and key in your browser in a few seconds. Correct them if you know the real values.
- **Paste your lyrics, or let Lyro write them** Lyro’s vocal model hears the beat and sings your words on it. No lyrics yet? Say what the song is about and Lyro drafts them. Leave the box empty and Lyro writes the words itself and sings them.
- **Mix the vocal with your beat** The vocal opens in the mixer beside your beat. Nudge a phrase if a word lands early or late, balance the two, add reverb and delay, then master.

## The details

### The two paths, side by side

| | With lyrics | Without lyrics (improvised) |
|---|---|---|
| What happens | A vocal model listens to your beat and sings your lyrics on it | Lyro writes words sized to your beat, then the same vocal model sings them on it |
| What you get | Your words, sung, as a vocal track on its own | Words Lyro wrote, sung, as a vocal track on its own |
| Cost | 7 credits for a beat of up to a minute, 11 credits for a three-minute beat | 6 credits for a beat of up to 5 minutes |
| Best for | A finished song with words that matter | Topline ideas, hooks and a quick demo of the beat with a voice on it |

### How the lyrics path works under the hood

Lyro sends your beat and your lyrics to a vocal model made for this job. It listens to the beat itself, not only to its tempo and key, sings your words on its grid and returns the voice alone. Your beat file is never changed: the new vocal comes back as its own track and meets the beat only in the mixer, where you set the balance.

If that model is busy, your job waits its turn: it makes one vocal at a time, and a job that fails there gets one more try. If it still cannot be made, every credit for it comes back. Turkish lyrics take another route, because Lyro High pronounces Turkish more clearly: Lyro High sings your lyrics in a full song at your beat’s tempo and key, and stem separation keeps only the vocal. A vocal from that route matches your beat’s tempo and key but was sung over generated music, so a phrase may need sliding or trimming in the mixer.

### How the improvised path works

With the lyrics box empty, Lyro’s lyric writer first plans words for your beat from its length and tempo, in the language you pick, and then the same vocal model as the lyrics path sings them on the beat and returns the vocal alone. You can describe the voice you want, such as a soulful lead with a melodic hook. Since 22 October 2026 this path sings real words; before that it improvised a wordless melody. If you like the melody, write your own words and run the lyrics path; the model writes a new melody for them, so it will not copy the improvised one note for note. A [topline](https://lyromusic.com/glossary#topline) is the vocal melody, and usually the words, written over an instrumental.

### Where the limits are

- AI vocals can mispronounce words, and a new attempt costs credits.

- The model writes its own melody for your words. You steer it with the lyrics, the voice and a line of style, not note by note.

- A word can still land slightly early or late. Split that phrase in the studio and move it on the grid.

- For Turkish lyrics the vocal comes from separation, so it can carry faint artefacts from the music it was sung over.

- Tempo and key are read in your browser and are estimates. Turkish lyrics rely on them, so check for a half or double tempo, or a relative key, before you generate.

- Beats with a drifting tempo, such as live recordings, are harder to sing on than programmed ones.

- You need the rights to the beat you upload. If you leased it, check what your lease allows.

### Formats, credits and rights

Bringing your own beat is on every plan, Starter included ($14 a month for 80 credits); the stem splitter is on Creator. The mixer, mastering and WAV export from the studio come with every plan. A vocal with lyrics costs 7 credits for a beat of up to a minute and 11 credits for three minutes, whichever path makes it. If a job cannot be made, every credit for it comes back automatically.

As between you and us, you own whatever rights exist in the result, and your beat stays yours. Every paid plan includes a commercial licence for the generated vocal. Every download carries an ID3 tag declaring it AI-generated, and vocals made on Lyro High also carry an inaudible watermark added by the model provider. See [music rights](https://lyromusic.com/legal/music-rights) and the step-by-step guide [How to add AI vocals to your beat](https://lyromusic.com/learn/how-to-add-ai-vocals-to-your-beat).

## Questions

### Will Lyro change my beat?

No. The vocal model hears your beat so it can sing on it, but what comes back is only the new vocal, on its own track. The two are combined only in the mixer, where you control the balance, and your beat file is never rewritten.

### Does the AI vocal land on my beat’s timing?

Usually, yes: the vocal model listens to the beat and sings on its grid, so the vocal comes back in place. A word can still land a little early or late; split that phrase in the studio and move it on the grid. If your lyrics are in Turkish, which take another route, the vocal is in your beat’s tempo but you slide it until its first word sits on the downbeat. See [AI vocals off beat?](https://lyromusic.com/features/vocals-off-beat)

### Can I get only the vocal, as an acapella for my own session?

Yes. The vocal comes back on its own, and you download it as a WAV to drop into your own music software next to your beat. An improvised vocal also comes back on its own track. Downloads are never counted or capped.

### I have no lyrics. Can Lyro write them?

Yes. Say in a line what the song is about and Lyro’s lyric writer drafts words sized to your beat, about a line a bar when rapped and a line every two bars when sung, which the vocal model then sings on your beat. If you already have some lines, Fill the rest keeps them. You can also leave the box empty and Lyro writes the words without a brief and sings them, an improvised [topline](https://lyromusic.com/features/topline-generator).

### What does it cost to add a vocal to my beat?

With lyrics, 7 credits for a beat of up to a minute and 11 credits for a three-minute one. Improvised, with words Lyro writes, 6 credits for a beat of up to 5 minutes. Both are on every plan: Starter is $14 a month for 80 credits. See the [pricing](https://lyromusic.com/pricing) page.

### Which file types can I upload?

WAV, MP3, M4A, FLAC and OGG all work. FLAC and OGG files are turned into WAV in your browser before they are uploaded, with no further loss, so they go to the vocal model too. Upload the best quality you have, ideally the WAV export from your music software, with no limiter pushing it into distortion. You can check its tempo and key first with the free [BPM and key finder](https://lyromusic.com/tools/bpm-key-finder).

### Can the vocal follow a melody I already have in mind?

Not note by note. You steer the vocal with the lyrics, the voice type, the language and the style prompt, and the model writes the melody. If you need an exact melody, record it yourself in the browser and let Lyro build on your voice instead.

### Do I need the rights to the beat?

Yes. Only upload audio you made or have permission to use. If you leased the beat, your lease decides what you may release. Lyro’s licence covers what Lyro generates, not the audio you bring. See the [acceptable use policy](https://lyromusic.com/legal/acceptable-use).
